Sumptuous and deliciously subversive. Let yourself be seduced by this vampiric alt-rock extravaganza. Reveal is Disconnectica's biggest production to date, with an eclectic range of instruments and musical variations throughout. Western and African drumming, guitars, piano, harpsichord, glockenspiel, organ, synths, strings, and even a kazoo! It's baroque pop with a playful yet sinister vaudeville/circus vibe. There's so much going on here. So many different directions explored, and so many different combinations of instruments, but always leaving space for crystal clear vocals.
Disconnectica is singer/songwriter/producer Robert Webb from Melbourne, Australia. He uses virtual instruments, but does an impressive job of replicating the sound and feel of real instruments. Aside from a synth or two, this mostly sounds like a symphony of real instruments. No mean feat. Influences including Bowie, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles can all be detected here.
“I started work on this over a year and a half before even playing the first demo for anyone. It just took a long time to get it sounding right. Now after endless tweaking I'm really happy with the result.” - Robert Webb
The lyrics invite us to reveal our darkest thoughts, whatever they be. Sucking us into what may be a false sense of security. We find seductive and intricate lyrics like "Slay the slave that lives in your heart / Sever your two selves apart / Spill your soliloquy / Share your darkest thoughts with me". A sprawling epic full of ear candy and never a dull moment despite its length. At almost 7 minutes, it's the longest track on Disconnectica's upcoming album, but from the rising pitch at the start to the falling pitch at the end, the many twists and turns ensure it never outstays its welcome.
“That was wild... Dissociatives... Beatlesque... a vaguely menacing carnival atmosphere... Like a lot of prog the enjoyment of following that song is following its interesting paths and some of those unexpected melodic and harmonic turns, just trying to keep up with your brain.” - Tim Shiel (host on Double J & Triple J) - feedback at Playback
“The moments that I enjoyed the most... definitely the harpsichord section... I think it just matched the energy of the lyrics and the way you delivered them... Also the bongo section” - Tanja Bunter (host on Triple J) - feedback at Playback
“Disconnectica's “Reveal” emerges as a monumental achievement in the realm of modern alternative rock, transcending genres with its rich tapestry of sounds and intricate storytelling. Led by the masterful craftsmanship of Robert Webb, this single from his upcoming album “Eclectic Dystopia” is a sonic journey that blends dark, theatrical elements with a vibrant musicality” - Musikepool

Share your darkest thoughts with me
No matter what they be
You won't get burnt
No need to be concerned
Have no fear I will not judge
Rest assured I will not budge
I won't freak out or flee
Share your darkest thoughts with me
Be brave and convey what I crave
And I'll take it to my grave
I can offer impunity
Share you darkest thoughts and see
Discard your dull disguise
Fan the flame before it dies
Divulge your derelict dreams
Disclose your darkest thoughts to me
You know you want to
So take a seat and take a stand
Society be damned
Set free your brave escapee
Share your darkest thoughts with me
Slay the slave that lives in your heart
Sever your two selves apart
Spill your soliloquy
Share your darkest thoughts with me
Picture the heights that we could climb
Reveal!
Be my partner in crime
Reveal!
Go on, I won't interrupt you
All I want, to do is corrupt you
In the nicest possible way
Go on, have your say
Think it through, it's never too late
Take your time, take the bait
Think of being the being we could be
Share your darkest thoughts with me
Take on the task
Take off the mask
Reveal!
Open your mind and
See what we find
Reveal!
Light your torch and
Risk being scorched
Reveal!
Come what may you're
Paving the way
Reveal!
Anyway, that's my philosophy
Share your darkest thoughts with me
I still like a window seat
Disconnectica is the solo project of singer/songwriter Robert Webb from Melbourne, Australia, delivering genre-hopping under a broad alternative rock umbrella. Quirky songwriting reminiscent of Bowie and Beatles, with elements of rock à la White Stripes and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the downright weirdness of Radiohead and Zappa. At times playful, at times sinister, often both. But always unique.
Disconnectica's debug album Eclectic Dystopia has finally been released after years of work and tweaking. Eight singles from the album received airplay on Australian FM radio, including 3RRR (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), RTRFM, 4ZZZ (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), Three D Radio, Tribe FM, Gippsland FM, Pulse FM (1, 2), 2MCE-FM, Valley FM, 107.3 HFM and played over 200 times on Antipodes Radio (1, 2, 3), and played on Big Satsuma Radio in the UK (1, 2. 3).

“That was wild... Beatlesque” - Tim Shiel (host on Double J & Triple J)
“The psychotic madness of Disconnectica” - Kate Kingsmill, 3RRR
“I really enjoyed listening to this song. It is so different but familiar at the same time. I am intrigued and want to hear more” - Indie Music Insider Blog's review of Somewhere Always
“...tonight we'll be shining the spotlight on his latest single White Noise... With old-school wailing electric guitars and an amazing solo in the middle this is one to make you move and think at the same time.” - Dirty Harry, S.O.S., 2MCE FM
Disconnectica is a DIY artist using only virtual instruments on a computer, but gravitates towards realistic sounds, and has fooled musicians with his electric guitars and drums. However, only the vocals are are recorded from outside the computer.
“I've always been a bit of an outsider, a bit of a hermit, and felt the need to go my own way, divert from the pack. It's the same with music and everything else I do. I don't expect it to have mass appeal, but I hope it finds a cult niche corner in the alternative market somewhere”
Being interested in the whole package, he also designs his own cover art and makes trippy music videos. A programmer by trade, he writes software to create mind-bending geometric effects for these videos. He writes “It's great to have a single purpose that brings all my big interests together: music, film, geometry and programming.”
Robert played piano in his youth. His family had two synthesizers and a hardware sequencer, and he remembers spending many hours composing and recording long instrumental pieces on their primitive interfaces. Who needs a computer when you have two lines of dot-matrix text?! He moved onto other things for many years, writing the occasional piano solo. But eventually answered the call and returned to music production.
